Mouthwash Facts In Las Vegas

Mouthwash Facts In Las Vegas

Hi, I am dentist Steven Do.  Thanks for visiting my Providence Dental blog. In today’s post I would like to discuss mouthwash. Many Nevada residents use mouthwash to freshen their breath and help retard tooth decay. Mouthwash should never be used exclusively though, good oral hygiene starts with thorough tooth brushing and flossing. Mouthwash is an optional tool in your dental hygiene tool box.

It is important for Nevada residents to know what kind of mouthwash they are using. Some mouthwashes merely mask bad breath while others help reduce the bacteria that causes plaque and bad breath.

If you are one of the Las Vegas residents that suffers from bad breath it is important to choose a mouthwash that contains ingredients that help prevent tooth decay such as fluoride. But Nevada men and women also need to use caution when using mouthwashes because many of the ingredients are dangerous when the recommended amount of mouthwash is exceeded.

Some of the poisonous components are chlorhexidine gluconate, ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, and methyl salicylate. If you experience throat pain, vomiting, headache, or abdominal pain after using mouthwash, seek medical help immediately. The National Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) can answer questions about mouthwash ingredients.

At Providence Dental we want everyone to have great smelling breath, but to use caution when treating their bad breath. Make sure to read your mouthwash label and follow all instructions given.

In addition to preventative dental care, Providence Dental offers a wide range of cosmetic dentistry procedures. If you are a resident anxious to have a whiter, brighter smile talk to Providence Dental about teeth whitening. Providence Dental also provide family and pediatric dentistry and dental implants.

At Providence Dental we have been improving the smiles of residents in Las Vegas, Las Vegas and the surrounding areas since 2016. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.

3 Dental Dangers For Toddlers

Centennial Hills family dentist

Hello new parents! We know that keeping babies and toddlers safe and healthy requires constant effort. You secure them tightly in their car seats, lock your medicine cabinet, and guard the stairway with a gate. You take them to your pediatrician for immunizations, check-ups, and an occasional prescription for an antibiotic.

Providence Dental wants to remind you about another critical component of child wellness: oral health. Sadly, we see too many cases of completely preventable child decay. You have probably received the following important advice, but it bears repeating:

Don’t put babies to bed with a bottle!
Don’t allow kids to drink juice continually during the day!
Prevent frequent snacking on sugary foods!

Oral health is intrinsically connected to overall physical health and normal development. If your oral hygiene is not up to par, now is the time to shape up and help your young child develop optimal oral health practices that will serve them well throughout their life.

Providence Dental recommends beginning twice-yearly dental visits around age one or when the first tooth breaks through. Our friendly staff helps young patients feel comfortable and relaxed during their exams.

Dentist Steven Do can advise you on thumb sucking, dental sealants, normal child tooth development, braces, athletic tooth protection, fluoride, or any other pediatric dental issue.

If your toddler has not yet visited the dentist, schedule an appointment ASAP by calling us at 702-852-2244.

Super Smiles For Life

implant dentures Las Vegas

Your child should be naturally proud of his or her smile. It expresses joy, laughter, and fun! To make sure your child has a healthy and appealing smile, start early. Really early.

We recommend a child’s first dental visit when their first tooth erupts. An early check is the first step in preventing problems and setting the stage for lifelong pediatric dental health. dentist Do will keep the visit short, but perform a thorough visual examination to make sure there are no concerns.

We will counsel you on good dental procedures at home, such as correct brushing and flossing. You will also be guided regarding healthy eating choices and the impact of poor choices. It is especially important to keep your toddler from eating sticky or hard candies that lodge in molars and spaces between teeth. It is also important to monitor the amount of juice they drink and keep it in a cup instead of a bottle.

Any time sugary foods or drinks are in contact with teeth, the enamel is weakened from the acid those substances contain. Prolonged exposure begins to wear the enamel away, setting the stage for cavities. Unlike broken bones that regenerate, once enamel is gone, it’s essentially gone, though fluoride can remineralize weakened enamel to a small degree.

Promoting a healthy, low sugar diet is always optimal for your toddler’s teeth. If your baby or toddler needs a bottle to calm down and go to sleep, make sure that the bottle contains only water.

Other essential habits are to brush and floss your teeth in front of your child. (If you have never been regular flossing – it’s time to start!) Let them see that it is a priority and a comfortable habit in your life. Brush their teeth with a soft-bristled brush and a small amount of toothpaste. Let them try it, but always go over their teeth afterward, making sure each tooth is brushed. When finished, give them a cup of water to help rinse the toothpaste out.

Before coming to Providence Dental, meet with your child about the upcoming appointment and let them know that their teeth are going to be checked. Dr. Do will help your child feel proud of their effort and help them have a good visit, the first of many to come.

Remember also to call any time between scheduled visits with any questions or concerns that might arise. We are passionate about your child’s lifelong dental health.

Do serves many families in the Las Vegas area with proficiency and compassion. At Providence Dental, we love working with children and will help your child have a good experience learning to care for their teeth.

Each member of our convenient team is devoted to making our youngest patients feel safe and comfortable. Our patients enjoy a friendly atmosphere while benefitting from our state-of-the-art technology.

Children’s Cavities Are Not “Just A Part Of Growing Up”

Las Vegas Cosmetic Dentistry

What are some of the preventative treatments often used to help impede the development of cavities in children?

Dental sealants are a thin coat of clear resin that is applied to the biting surfaces of teeth, usually the rear molars. The back teeth are more prone to cavities because is difficult to reach them with a toothbrush, and the surfaces contain pits and grooves that easily trap bacteria. It is hard for many adults to clean their back molars and almost impossible for our young Centennial Hills children.

Dental sealants fill in the pits and grooves on the rear molars to create a smooth surface. Las Vegas family dentists most often recommend sealants for children’s permanent back teeth, though sometimes they are used for adults, too.

Las Vegas parents may not realize how quickly a cavity can form in a young child’s mouth. Many NW Las Vegas area kids that we see develop cavities even before they start kindergarten!

Local parents should always start regular dental visits early for their young children. The American Dental Association advises that an initial dental exam should take place soon after the first tooth erupts.

Dental sealants protect teeth with no decay (primary prevention) and also prevent further decay progression in teeth that show very early signs of disease (secondary prevention).

At Providence Dental, we take special care of our young Las Vegas dental patients. We want each child’s dental visits to be pleasant and painless so they will never develop a fear of the dentist. We advise parents on the specific dental issues associated with each stage of childhood. Ask us about fluoride, sports mouthguards, and orthodontic treatment.

Children’s Dental Restorations

There is more than one way to fix a child’s tooth. Whether it’s decay or a crack, we have a restoration option.

Today’s message looks at three pediatric tooth restoration procedures we provide to repair a damaged tooth:

1. Dental Bonding

Bonding is used to correct chips, cracks, stains, and make teeth longer, and is also sometimes used to fill cavities. Your dentist applies a pliable composite resin and molds it to the exact shape needed. The resin is then hardened with a special curing light.

2. A Filling (Inlay or Onlay)

A filling fixes a cavity and is shaped and molded to fit to the tooth. Because inlays and onlays are created in a dental lab, they are often called indirect fillings. Inlays are applied to just the center of the biting surface of a tooth (not to a cusp or point) and are usually smaller than onlays.

3. A Dental Crown

Crowns are used for teeth that have had a root canal, teeth with severe decay, or the replacement tooth in a dental bridge. Crowns can be made of all metal, porcelain fused to metal, all-ceramic, or all resin.

It’s critical to restore both primary and permanent teeth. If your child has a cavity or damaged tooth, don’t delay treatment.

For more specifics about any of these options, call Providence Dental at 702-852-2244.

Pediatric Dental Excellence In Las Vegas

pediatric dental Las Vegas

We Love Children!

Our goal is to create a pleasant overall dental experience for our patients. We want to make sure they look forward to visits and never develop a fear of the dentist.

From Infancy Through Adolescence

We serve toddlers, young children, and teenagers. We focus on preventative dentistry and helping families establish healthy dental habits for life.

A Member of Your Child’s Healthcare Team

A pediatric dentist is an indispensable member of your family’s healthcare team. Regular dental visits starting no later than 12 months of age is just as critical as well-child check-ups with your pediatrician.

Proactive Preventative Dentistry

We are dedicated to early detection and treatment of dental diseases. Plus we stay abreast of the latest in pediatric dentistry.

Because most children and adolescents have at least a few fillings, it may seem that tooth decay is an unavoidable part of childhood. The truth is that during childhood (or any stage of life) tooth decay is 100% preventable.

There is much you can do to keep your child’s primary teeth and adult teeth healthy and cavity-free.

Setting a Good Example

When it comes to practicing careful dental health habits, we can all set a good example for our children and teenagers.

A Lifestyle For A Healthy Smile

Do they see us brush and floss carefully? Do they find water bottles in our car cup holders or empty soda cans? Do they see us limit sugary snacks? Do we schedule twice-yearly dental visits and cleanings for ourselves and our kids?

It’s Never Too Late To Improve

If you have teens with a lot of cavities, don’t give up. It’s never too late to improve oral health.

Dental Breakthroughs On The Horizon

dental breakthroughs Las Vegas

At Providence Dental, we use the latest validated dental technology to provide our patients with quality general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. In addition, our dentists keep tabs on the latest research that is propelling the industry forward.

Here are some of the intriguing dental technologies currently being analyzed and tested:

Fill and Heal: Bioactive Glass
A new type of filling created from ‘bioactive glass’ has been shown to increase the life of fillings by restricting secondary decay and replacing lost minerals.

“Bioactive glass, which is a type of crushed glass that is able to interact with the body, has been used in some types of bone healing for decades. This type of glass is only beginning to see use in dentistry, and our research shows it may be very promising for tooth fillings.” – Jamie Kruzic, professor of advanced structural and biomaterials at the Oregon State University College of Engineering

Stem cell regenerative medicine is poised to furnish a multitude of exciting discoveries in dentistry.

A research team from the University of Nottingham and Harvard University is applying stem cell technology to dentistry with the development of stem-cell based biomaterials that regenerate tooth dentin. The objective is to use them in fillings and root canals to save and regenerate tooth structure. The research is in its early stages, but this technology could one day help preserve millions of smiles for individuals worldwide.

3D Printing
3D printing is already being used in some dental offices to fabricate aligners, retainers, drilling guides for implant placement, and extremely accurate models for restorations. As the printers become faster and less pricey, you will be seeing them in more Nevada  dental offices.

Technology has its place, but experience, expertise, and a warm and attentive chairside manner are just as vital. The dentists at Providence Dental invite you to enjoy the difference at our comfortable dental office. We provide many services, including family and pediatric dentistry.
